Description
‘Academic Festival Overture’ was composed by Johannes Brahms during the summer of 1880 as a musical “thank you” note dedicated to the University of Breslau,
where he was awarded an honorary doctorate the previous year.
The Overture simply sparkles with some of Brahms’s finest orchestral writing, sometimes applied for comic effect, particularly in the composer’s treatment of popular student drinking songs.
